The makers of Farmville, the popular online social game now have an estimated worth that surpasses industry heavyweight EA Games, who have been in the business for decades.
Zynga is now worth more than the second biggest mainstream videogame publisher in the world. So claims a report from SharesPost Inc., an exchange for shares of privately held companies. According to the report, privately held Zynga is currently worth $5।51 billion. That’s nearly $300 million more than the $5.22 billion market capitalization of EA on the NASDAQ stock exchange. SharesPost based its valuation figure on data from trades of private shares, research estimates, and venture-financing valuations.
Electronic Arts has been in the games publishing business for many decades, while Zynga has only been in the limelight for as long as Facebook games have existed। The former is a publisher of big budget console and computer games such as Battlefield, Need for Speed, Medal of Honor, Mass Effect and The Sims, while Zynga’s portfolio is filled with online social games such as the ever popular Farmville, Frontierville, Mafia Wars and Vampire Wars.
